This World Bible Study

Our relationship with this world and its Creator

This World Bible Study''In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light 'day,' and the darkness he called 'night.' And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day... ... By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.' (Genesis 1:1-5, 2:1-3, NIV)

When we start looking at the world upon which we live, it's more than simply thinking about how we might better look after it (that's another study entirely!) but also thinking about such questions as 'What was God's purpose in creating the earth?', 'Where did we all go wrong?', 'Where do we find hope?' and 'Just what are our responsibilities?'

I'm not saying this set of Bible studies answers all the theological questions that those questions pose (!) but at least it might get you thinking a bit more about them, and generate a bit of discussion in small groups that might be fruitful!

'I look out of this window and I think this is a cosmos, this is a huge creation, this is one small corner of it. The trees and birds and everything else and I'm part of it. I didn't ask to be put here, I've been lucky in finding myself here.' (Morris West)

'You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.' (Woodrow Wilson)

'Conversation between Adam and Eve must have been difficult at times because they had nobody to talk about.' (Agnes Repplier)

Stumbling BLocks Bible STudy on discipleship

The study  is formatted such that each individual study can be printed off on 2 double-sided sheets of A4 for distribution to a group.

The four studies have enough material to keep a group going for an evening, looking at a range of topics related to the theme.

1) This world - as God's creation

2) This world - as fallen

3) This world - as redeemed

4) This world - and us
