We live in an age of extraordinary knowledge. Space telescopes show us galaxies billions of light years away. Geneticists can read the code written into every cell of our bodies. Geologists trace the history of the earth across deep, almost unimaginable stretches of time. It is a remarkable moment to be alive — and for people of faith, it raises questions that deserve honest, thoughtful attention.

For some, science and faith feel like two entirely different worlds, and choosing between them seems unavoidable. The late physicist Stephen Hawking wrote that ‘science makes God unnecessary,’ suggesting that the laws of nature alone are sufficient to explain everything that exists. Francis Collins, who led the Human Genome Project and mapped the entire human genetic code, has written movingly of how that work deepened rather than diminished his faith.

This material assumes no background in science. The five studies that follow move from the mystery of creation, through what it means to be human, to the question of miracles, the relationship between knowledge and wisdom, and finally to what a faithful response to all of this looks like in practice.

 

The study  is formatted such that each individual study can be printed off on 2 double-sided sheets of A4 for distribution to a group, or distributed by email. If you're using it with more than one group, it would be appreciated if you could consider purchasing one study per group!
