Prayers for the Lectionary Year C

Praying through the Lectionary Year  C - 6th Sunday of Easter

The Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) offers a three-year cycle with four readings for every Sunday in the Church Year.

These readings are:
A Lesson from the Hebrew Scriptures (or Acts during the Season of Easter)
A Psalm
A Lesson from the Epistles or Acts
A Lesson from the Gospels

The following prayers follow a traditional form using the pattern of ACT (Adoration, Confession and Thanksgiving).

There is also an opening prayer which can be used at the beginning of a service.

Sixth Sunday of Easter

Acts 16:9-15; Psalm 67; Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5; John 14:23-29

OPENING PRAYER

May the Peace which passes all understanding, which has its source within the very nature of Father, Son and Spirit be with us as we meet, to still our souls and join our hearts as one. May the gentle whisper of the God of peace speak to us through our worship, the reading and understanding of scripture, and be the message of our lives as we leave this place. Amen

ADORATION

May the nations praise you,
may all the nations praise you!
Your kingdom is everlasting.
You rule your people with wisdom and justice.
You bless your people with grace and truth.
You bring a harvest where your word is sown.
May the nations praise you,
may all the nations praise you!
Your love is everlasting.
You want all people to respond to your grace.
You lead all people to the water of life.
You bring a harvest where your love is shown.
May the nations praise you,
may all the nations praise you!

CONFESSION

You call us to live your life,
follow where you have trod,
be your presence in these streets,
show compassion to the poor,
support the weak,
embrace the outcast,
bring lives into your kingdom.
Yet our hearts are troubled,
we are fearful of the task,
deafened to your promise
to be with us
wherever we might go.
Forgive our timidity,
grant us peace for the journey,
and strength for the day,
that we might demonstrate our love
in the life we live and share . Amen

THANKSGIVING

In the ebb and flow of daily life
you shed light upon the way,
reveal the path that we should walk,
lead hearts and souls in praise.

In the ebb and flow of daily life
no darkness bars our way,
your glory shines in hearts that walk
where you would lead this day.
Halleluiah! Thank you! Amen
