Lectionary Prayers -Year C

The Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) offers a three-year cycle with four readings for every Sunday in the Church Year. These readings are:

A Lesson from the Hebrew Scriptures (or Acts during the Season of Easter)
    A Psalm
A Lesson from the Epistles or Acts
    A Lesson from the Gospels

The following prayers follow a traditional form using the pattern of ACT (Adoration, Confession and Thanksgiving). There is also an opening prayer which can be used at the beginning of a service.

OPENING PRAYER

As we gather for worship,
let us spend just a moment in quiet,
stilling our hearts,
remembering why we are here.
(Pause)
May the Lord be with us
in our singing,
the prayers we offer
and our understanding.
May our thoughts be on others
rather than self,
and our hearts stirred to service
as we leave this place.
Amen

ADORATION

Son of God,
you love each one of us
as if there were just one of us!
Some have striven hard
to obey your commands,
some have found their way
after a journey that was long,
some have drifted here
unsure of the path they trod,
some are simply here
because of your mercy and grace.
Son of God,
you love each one of us
as if there were just one of us,
how can we not sing your praises
for all that you have done!

CONFESSION

Lord, we would follow you
wherever you might lead.
Lord, we would follow you.
Forgive us when we stumble
and when we stray.
Forgive us when, distracted
we lose our way.
Be the one to whom we turn,
whose hand we hold,
the Shepherd who leads us
safely to the fold.
Lord, we would follow you
wherever you might lead.
Lord, we would follow you.

THANKSGIVING

Gracious Father,
loving unconditionally,
whose heart
overflows with forgiveness,
this is our offering of praise.

Gracious Son,
giving sacrificially,
whose body
bled for our salvation,
this is our offering of praise.

Gracious Spirit,
flowing eternally,
whose breath
revives our faith and soul,
this is our offering of praise.
